About 'united healthcare providers'|United Healthcare Settlements Part II - A Nationwide Healthcare Database








               My               parents               are               approaching               retirement               and               planning               to               move               to               a               more               rural               area               of               the               United               States.

With               a               report               by               the               American               Association               of               Medical               Colleges,               it               is               estimated               that               we               will               need               more               than               20,000               new               primary               care               physicians,               in               rural               areas,               to               meet               the               demand               of               retirees.

Based               on               this               information,               I               have               tried               to               address               these               concerns               with               my               parent's               health               care               access               and               feel               you               may               want               to               do               the               same.
               While               the               cost               of               living               in               rural               America               is               typically               cheaper,               if               you               have               a               pre-existing               health               condition               there               could               be               challenges               to               acquiring               quality               care.

Lack               of               doctors               is               the               primary               focus               of               the               report               by               the               AAMC,               in               which               they               acknowledge               that               physicians               in               rural               areas               are               typically               not               working               in               specialty               as               a               wider,               and               more               available,               patient               base               is               found               in               traditional               family               practice.

For               my               parents,               if               there               are               any               specialty               healthcare               services               they               need,               while               living               in               a               rural               area,               it               may               be               more               challenging               to               find               the               care               they               need,               especially               in               emergency               situations.
               In               addition               to               lack               of               specialized               services               in               rural               areas,               another               cause               for               concern               is               the               lack               of               available               health               services               accepting               Medicare               as               a               form               of               payment.

Because               the               federal               Medicare               program               typically               pays               for               rural               healthcare               expenses               at               a               rate               less               than               that               of               the               urban               healthcare               system,               healthcare               services               are               limited.

While               there               may               be               physicians               and               health               providers               in               a               town               that               my               parents               decide               to               live               in,               the               fact               remains               that               some               of               the               health               services               may               be               prohibitive               for               them               based               upon               the               lack               of               Medicare               acceptance.
               To               mitigate               these               financial               and               healthcare               access               risks               -               and               if               my               parents               continue               to               insist               that               retiring               to               a               rural               area               is               more               ideal               -               I               will               try               to               persuade               a               specific               move               that               will               provide               more               access               to               services.

If               you               are               facing               the               same               dilemma,               try               to               find               areas               in               which               nurse               practitioners               are               abundant               and               work               to               encourage               a               move               to               a               state               where               nurse               practitioners               can               practice               care               without               the               direct               supervision               of               a               doctor.

In               doing               so,               we               may               have               a               greater               opportunity               to               find               our               parents               the               healthcare               they               need               while               also               supporting               their               move               to               rural               living.

Nurse               practitioners               may               be               in               more               abundance               and               pick               up               the               significant               shortage               of               physicians               we               need               in               these               areas.
               Living               in               tiny               houses,               and               transitioning               to               rural               living               has               become               a               growing               trend               in               the               United               States.

If               your               parents               are               like               mine,               and               if               you               are               concerned               about               their               health               care               access,               consider               these               disadvantages               and               work               to               mitigate               the               complication               by               finding               the               best               rural               area               with               doctors               and               nurse               practitioners,               in               specialty,               ready               to               take               Medicare               as               payment.
